There aren't many people who haven't returned home to find that the postman has visited while they were out.
But for every person who's found a note telling them their package has been stowed at the local Post Office there is someone else who discovered their deliveries stashed in more imaginative - and frankly unsafe - places.
Now aggrieved customers have shared photos of their postal companies' worst delivery decisions from stuffing parcels in bushes to hiding them in plain sight in a series of pictures that make you swear off internet shopping for life.
Delivery companies are known to get creative when it comes to hiding packages from plain sight
One nifty UPS postman hid a box in the rafters of porch with a sign saying 'Look Up' taped to the adjacent column
Either this courier was very tall or very nimble as they managed to stuff this cardboard box in the roof of a veranda
In the hilarious Bored Panda gallery it's clear that some postmen went above and beyond the line of duty, doing their very best to ensure the customer received their package even if they weren't home.
One cautious USPS worker hid a sizeable cardboard box in a bush adjacent to the house. The smart-thinking delivery man realised the bark would camouflage the precious package.
Similarly, a UPS delivery team left a box hidden in the rafters of a porch with a note stuck to a column scrawled with the phrase 'Look Up'.
Not everyone can follow instructions: UPS obviously ignored this couple's cry for a hard knock
A particularly determined post office stuffed the largest package they could into a PO box
Another less determined postal company opted out of delivering to a customer altogether.
In full knowledge that door knocking can go easily missed in their home, one customer pinned a note addressed to their delivery man to their door.
It read: 'UPS Man, We are home. Please knock loudly. Thanks, Mr. & Mrs. Currier'
Though one would expect this would persuade them to hammer hard on the door, instead they left a 'sorry you were out' notice stuck to the customer's explicit sign.
Some courier companies go above and beyond - even driving through walls to make a delivery - while others do as little as they can
When a customer asks for specific delivery instructions they should be warned that they may be followed, like this person's who asked for their oversize cardboard box to be: 'Please put under doormat'
Delivery companies vary dramatically on how well they follow instructions.
For instance, one person requested for the parcel to be: 'Please put under doormat'. And, this is exactly what the postal service did even though the oversized box looked ridiculous with the doormat propped on top of it.
Conversely, when a considerate daughter ordered party supplies for Mother's Day her delivery instructions weren't followed.
Unfortunately for Molly Gunn her mum's Mother's Day was ruined when a delivery of party supplies was mislabelled
She advised: 'It's a surprise party for my mother and we live together
'So please can the box not look obvious it's party supplies'.
However, unfortunately, this wasn't followed as the delivery instructions were printed large on the outside of the package.
On one hand the customer must be happy to have received their parcel while on the other they must be curious why there are red blood-coloured splatters on it
